Maiev - Tether Build

This is a very high skill cap build that can do a lot of burst damage. In order to get the most out of this build, you want to make sure that you are constantly getting stacks on your quest at lvl 1. The more stacks you have going into the late game, the better you'll scale and become a real menace to deal with.

In the late game, this build excels. Your damage goes through the roof after lvl 16 and you’ll start 1 shotting squishies. All you have to do is pull the tether and watch the enemy’s health drop to the floor.
Bonds of Justice
Quest: Each tether applied to a secondary target of Umbral Bind permanently increases Umbral Bind's pull damage by 15. Reward: After applying 5 tethers to secondary targets, increase Umbral Bind's pull damage by 75. Reward: After applying 10 tethers to secondary targets, increase Umbral Bind's cleave damage by 30%.
Bonds of Justice is one of the key talents in this build. Stacking it up efficiently takes practice, but the reward is huge. This talent really comes online with Cruel Chain at lvl 16, as the extra damage from each stack scales with the damage multiplier from Cruel Chain, so it is very important to have at least 10 or more stacks by then. Keep in mind that you can hit minions or structures to tether a nearby hero and it will count towards the quest.
Blade Dance
Using Fan of Knives deals 50 Physical Damage to enemies around Maiev.
Blade Dance is a consistent choice and a reliable source of damage. Because its damage effect is individual from Fan of Knives, it also counts as a separate instance of damage for Cruel Chain, which greatly increases the speed you can stack it up to 5. Pin Down does not have this synergy with Cruel Chain, but does net more overall damage than Blade Dance if you can stack it, which can be more difficult than it looks on paper. It can however, be good against heroes like Samuro who’s clones can help you stack it up quickly.
Elune's Wrath
Hitting at least 2 Heroes with a single Fan of Knives causes the next Fan of Knives to drop a star on targets that deals 77 damage when it impacts.
Elune’s Wrath is the all around best talent at lvl 7. The extra damage you get from chaining resets is huge and hard to pass up. Bonds of Justice may have niche use if you have a strong AA’er on your team, such as Butcher, Greymane, Illidan, or Raynor, but Elune’s Wrath will usually still be the better choice if you are good at getting resets on Fan of Knives.
Warden's Cage
Summon 8 Warden Avatars as a cage around Maiev. After 1.5 seconds, enemy Heroes that come in contact with an Avatar consume it and are knocked to the center of the cage. Warden Avatars last 5 seconds.
Disk is a good alternative if your team lacks decent follow-up to make Cage valuable. Otherwise, default to Cage when you have good follow-up, as it can set up major wombo-combos.
Bladed Armor
Each enemy Hero hit by Fan of Knives grants 5 Armor for 5 seconds, up to 20 Armor.
Bladed Armor is usually the most consistent choice, and is therefore the default talent. Shadow Armor is also a good choice though, but relies on you being more agressive to retain the armor bonus. Chain Gang is good against burst damage due to its high armor and decent duration, but its capabilities are dependent on you hitting 2 or more heroes with Umbral Bind to see any effect.
Cruel Chain
Umbral Bind grants 25% Movement Speed for 2.5 seconds. In addition, each time Maiev deals damage to tethered targets, Umbral Bind's pull damage to all targets is increased by 30% up to 150%.
The powerspike of this build. If you can pull an enemy with 5 stacks of Cruel Chain, this talent deals massive burst damage that can devastate most backliners. You almost always want to pick this talent in combination with Bonds of Justice at lvl 1.
Shadow Orb: Shadow Strike
Activate to deal 75 damage to an enemy Hero, Slowing them by 30% and reducing their Armor by 20 for 4 seconds. Recharge Shadow Orb by dealing Spell Damage to enemy Heroes 10 times.
Shadow Strike can practically guarantee a 1 shot on any backliner, and even some frontliners. Combine that with its slowing effect and the enemy will have a tough time avoiding the fatal burst damage that this talent amplifies. Vengeance is also a good choice if you want to be able to immediately blink out after you blink in and tether to guarantee the pull. It’s also good as an additional escape, but is much harder to recharge than Shadow Strike. Huntress is more suited for the AA build due to its effects and recharge requirement, but it may still have its uses in this build.
